Drawing 451 part 4
What is happening this week?
More horrible stuff. Too much to keep up with? Yes, everyone is looking at their phones. Whatever information that is fed to us by our algorithms is what we see. And it’s all bad.
Ray Bradbury didn’t see that coming but in Fahrenheit he did see wall sized tv’s and the fact that so many of us would stare at it. People including me.
There are good shows of course. Good stories, but mostly a lot of trash meant to get us to buy whatever they are selling.
BUT…this is a blog about how I illustrated 451. And I’m talking about that book because of the times we live in.
I admit, I don’t know how to segue from the subject above to talking about my art.
So…ART!
The art for 451 and or any book I work on! How do I do it?
I’ll tell you the secret to any art project. Look at art history!
Look at art that turns you on from any place or time.
For 451, I created a mood board of art that included advertising art from the 1950’s, propaganda art and (as I said before) some Rockwell Kent prints. images like these!
Although all different, the pieces of art I choose were all very graphic and concise in what they represented. That’s what comics are after all. A book of clear and concise images that tell a story.
Thus some pages in Fahrenheit came about but trying my best to emulate the look of these images. You can see it easily in the examples below.
That is all for this week. sorry if these are short and sweet!
Go read a book!
